I was setting a pad for a young student, not paying close attention to how close the flame was getting to the oboe. Not only did I scorch a tenon cork, but I melted the oboe a wee bit. Sigh. Talk about embarrassing and scary. (The oboe is fine, but still ….)

I foresee this happening to me on a regular basis if I start teaching and am given an opportunity to use matches. Uh oh.
