“The flutes are another thing alltogether… I shouldn’t say that. They make wonderful friends.”
-Dick Dorsey
P.S.
ICE is wonderfulsauce. It is sooooo cool to just listen to other people play and add onto and alter what they just played, and blend with everyone else, and just to focus on sounds rather than notey runs and articulations. There is a totally awesome and giant ensemble this year! We have two violins, flute, saxophone, me (oboe and english horn), guitar, mandolin (and didgeridoo!), and four pianists who, awesomely, played four hands on each of the two pianos. Guh. It was like a collective consciousness! “Listening for the end” and creating music out of what everyone else was doing…
Also! I got the job at Chapters. I am going to start as a “seasonal” employee, but if I am good enough, they’ll keep me on. I think I’ve got a pretty good shot! I hope, anyway. I start October 7th. What else, what else… I started composing my first piece for Peter. It is a soundscape using a bunch of “natural” instruments like conch, ocarina, angklang, and a bunch of percussion–claves, marimba, wood/stone wind chimes, that kind of thing. I am excited! It’s going to feature the conch, and be called “By sound, Near seawall, At ocean-stream” which is the first part of an old-English riddle about the conch. However! I have to have 3-4 sketches per instrument done for Tuesday and I am kind of concerned! It’s hard to fit everything in, what with oboe and composing and class! Man.
Also I locked my housemate’s keys in his van when we went grocery shopping. I am not so smart sometimes.
Late again. I really need to draw a bunch and build up a queue again.
However! I think today’s comic is pretty neat. I hope you like it!
