uh oh Obohemia – Oboe Comics by Esther Wheaton » Archive » Checking in…

Checking in…

Hey! I haven’t been around much this summer, and it appears Moy hasn’t updated as much as she’d've liked (understatementoftheyear), but do not lose hope! We shall, indeed, be back!

I spent a few hours yesterday turning selections from my long list of ideas into actual physical comics. I think/hope you will like them! One of them may be serial, and involve a charge given me by none other than Alex Klein! I think it is going to be as epic as stick figures can be, and that can get pretty epic.

There are going to be some new things in September, too! We’re going to have some buttons for sale–designs are in the works (if you’d like to see an image/quote from a comic on a button, let us know!) and they are going to be very reasonably priced, as far as buttons go. Even if you don’t play oboe–Obohemian paraphernalia is always in fashion! Plus, any profit we make on these things will go towards hosting the site. And isn’t that a good cause?
Also! I have some pretty neat ideas for blogs–hardcore ones, with research and possibly interviews, and that kind of thing. And I am getting a camera for my birthday in the fall, so I can finally do that picture-tour of those old reeds Jim has that were made by several famous oboists. I’m going to *try* to make those blogs a weekly deal. I am also going to open up the blog to guest double-reeders, and get some people to write about their careers, and experiences, and masterclasses/conventions they were at.
It is going to be neat! The first “Oblog” (as I think I shall title them) is going to be a review of some of Cooper’s reeds, which he sent Moy and me as payment for some posters we did for his and his studio’s recitals.
(See, Cooper, I will do one, I will!)

My schedule for next year isn’t anything like as packed as it was this year, and while I will be working a part-time job along with school, and spending more time on composing, and so on, I should have time for this site, to make it exciting and frequently updated!
(Commas commas commas. I think I might overuse them in my attempts to make run-on sentences permissable.)

Anyway, this summer has been pretty much packed with work–I’m working full time nights and part time days, with several hours of bussing in between. It leaves me with about 5 hours sleep a day, sometimes more, sometimes less, but usually right around 5.
Which, when you consider I work 13 hours a day for four days a week, and 8 hours another day, does not seem like much. And my job! Guys, do not work on the floor in a factory if you are creative at all. It will EAT YOUR SOUL. I am only surviving through sheer determination, and the unusual ability to fall asleep wherever I am, whatever I am doing.
That and Questionable Content, which gives me something to look forward to every week day.

Aside from that, I have been doing some reading. Books (Salman Rushdie, Neil Gaiman, and Douglas Coupland are my authors of the summer), Wikipedia (as always) and some blogs.
Including Stereotypist by John Campbell, which makes me giggle a lot.
Example:
John Campbell makes me smile

See you SEPTEMBER FIRST.

Couches are 34 awesome? That’s pretty cool. 34 was my number for the brief time I worked at McDonalds.
