Alex Kleinfest
Some of you may remember how, a couple months ago, Alex Klein was featured in a Geico ad…which I then blogged about, which he then discovered…along with the comics I drew about him.

Anyway, after a bit of email correspondence, he has agreed to come and give a masterclass and recital here in Waterloo! On June 2nd, 2008 at Wilfrid Laurier University. (Probably in the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall).
But it gets better. I guess Jim has decided to turn this into an ‘event’ of some kind (like breathing on a barline? Yes? Yes?), so Brian Seaton is going to come and give one of his “this is how the oboe works” masterclasses, which are fantastic, guys. So fantastic. (And I always end up drawing a bunch of comics after them, see here, here, here, and one by Moy among others.)
Brian will be giving his talk in the morning, followed by the masterclass in the afternoon, followed by the recital in the evening.
Add to this the fact that Jim is playing Tombeau with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony (under Edwin Outwater) the three days before the 2nd, and Brian will be there all weekend repairing oboes (and he is really good at it), and that Yamaha is unveiling their new oboe in Waterloo that weekend, and there will be a trial session one of those days…I mean, it’s practically an oboe convention!
So. If you live within, oh, a six hour drive (or can afford a plane ticket) I encourage you to come out! For the weekend! There will be a large number of oboists here, anyway, and I can foresee massive reed orgies* and gatherings!
Plus you get to hear Alex Klein!
There is a Facebook Event up, and if you join, you can go there for more details as they roll out.
*Where we make reeds, you crazy person.
